What boat insurance covers

Protection for the boat — and everything that can happen on the water

Hull & physical damage

Repairs or replaces your boat after collision, storm, theft, fire, or sinking — with agreed-value options.

Covers bodily injury and property damage you’re responsible for in an on-water accident.

Medical payments

Helps pay for injuries to you and your passengers, regardless of who was at fault.

Towing & on-water assistance

Pays for emergency towing, fuel delivery, and jump-starts when you’re stranded on the water.

Personal effects & gear

Covers fishing equipment, electronics, water-sports gear, and personal belongings aboard.

Trailer coverage

Why Camden County boaters choose Barlow

Built for the way the Georgia coast actually boats

From Cumberland Sound and the St. Marys River to the Satilla and the Intracoastal Waterway, our clients run everything from flats boats and center consoles to pontoons, sailboats, and offshore rigs. Saltwater, named storms, and busy summer waterways all change what coverage you really need — and that’s where a local independent agent earns their keep.

We write boat and watercraft coverage through trusted carriers like Progressive, Travelers, Foremost, and Liberty Mutual, and we’ll make sure the details that matter on the coast — agreed value and named-storm protection — are built into your policy, not left to chance.

What sets our boat coverage apart

  • Agreed-value options so a total loss pays the full insured amount
  • Named-storm and hurricane considerations for coastal owners
  • Coverage for fishing, water sports, and saltwater use
  • A dedicated boat policy, not a generic add-on
  • Local agents who know our waterways and marinas

Our boat & watercraft carriers

We shop 30+ companies — and more — for every boat quote

Because we’re independent, we’re never tied to one company. When your renewal comes up, we review your policy against current market conditions and your account activity to decide whether re-shopping makes sense for you.

Boat insurance FAQ

Common questions from Camden County boaters

Is boat insurance required in Georgia?

Georgia does not legally require boat insurance, but it’s strongly recommended — and often required in practice. If you finance your boat, your lender will require coverage, and most marinas and storage facilities around Camden County require proof of liability insurance before they’ll give you a slip. More importantly, it protects you if you’re ever responsible for an injury or damage on the water.

Does my homeowners policy already cover my boat?

Usually only in a very limited way. A homeowners policy may extend small coverage to a canoe, kayak, or small low-horsepower boat, but it typically excludes larger boats, higher-powered motors, and on-water liability. For anything you’d take out on Cumberland Sound or the Intracoastal, you need a dedicated boat policy. We’ll review what your home policy does and doesn’t do so there are no surprises.

What does boat insurance actually cover?

A typical boat policy combines physical damage to the hull and motor, liability for injury or damage you cause, medical payments for you and your passengers, uninsured boater coverage, on-water towing, personal effects and fishing gear, and often the trailer. Coastal owners should also look at wreck removal, fuel-spill liability, and named-storm protection. We tailor each piece to your boat and how you use it.

What’s the difference between agreed value and actual cash value?

It’s one of the most important choices on a boat policy. An agreed-value policy pays the full amount you and the carrier agreed on if your boat is a total loss — no depreciation. An actual-cash-value policy subtracts depreciation, so you receive the boat’s depreciated worth at the time of loss. Agreed value costs a bit more but protects you far better, especially on a newer or well-maintained boat. We’ll quote both so you can decide.

Are jet skis and personal watercraft covered?

Yes. Jet skis and other personal watercraft can be insured, either on their own policy or sometimes alongside a boat or other coverage. They carry their own risks — speed, passengers, and shared waterways — so liability and medical payments matter just as much as physical-damage coverage. We write watercraft policies for Camden County families throughout the season.

Does boat insurance cover hurricane or named-storm damage?

Many policies cover storm damage, and some include haul-out reimbursement that helps pay to pull your boat from the water when a named storm is approaching the Georgia coast. The details vary by carrier, and some policies have separate named-storm provisions. Because hurricanes are a real exposure here, we make sure you understand your storm coverage before the season — not after a claim.
